Why the eye?

That little eye starring back at you at the top of the screen, that’s called an evil eye.

When I began my personal branding journey, I was caught up with so many interesting and meaningful logos that my peers were creating. I thought to myself, I want a logo.

I began to pull inspiration into a board that felt like Sophia.

01. I laid out typography that made me feel bold.

02. Colors that brought out the energy I sought to evoke.

03. Other logos and brands that vibed with me.

Serif fonts | A plethora of white space usage | Color pops | Mute color | schemes | Blocks | Thin Icon Weights x Thick Type | Simple.

Then I got to work brainstorming

I used a notebook to sketch out different ideas. From plays on my name to symbols that meant absolutely nothing.

Then it hit me.

There, on my left arm, sits an evil eye tattoo. One of the most meaningful symbols, to me.

An evil eye can signify a few things, two in particular.

01. Good luck, good faith, and good fortune.

02. Wisdom.

What is an evil eye?

Philo-Sophia.

Sophia means love of wisdom in Greek.

My mother always gifted me evil eye bracelets as a reminder of my name as a child. In theory, they were a fantastic and unique gift — except for the fact they never fit my wrists.

Being the problem-solver, I would push the bracelet all the way up my arm to ensure it stayed. That is how I came to a tattoo on my left arm

It all came together fairly quickly after that one. I began to design my evil eye tattoo into a logo, playing around with different color palettes and inverted schemes.

After securing a few that I really enjoyed, I began to iterate on each one to see if there was a version that stuck out.

Round #1.

Final round.

The rest was history.

I decided to keep to a color scheme involving nudes, tans, beiges, browns, and every other earthy tone you could possibly think of.
